H. Strumosis

Asteraceae

Intro

A wonderful little big sunflower that thrives in clay and harsh urban environments. The few specimens I have found were in shallow urban containers and their populations were absolutely exploding.

Details

These typically grow to between 2-2.75m in height. They grow as a single stalk with scattered leaves arranged both alternately and oppositely. Flowers are umbels and it's an aster so each "flower" is a head packed with tiny little flowers surrounded by rays. The rays on this sunflower are thinner at 1-2cm wide and sparse with 12-16 rays per head.

You know they say you never forget your first find, your first pressed plant, your first catalogged specimen. Well, here I am sitting on my laptop after a shower, too lazy to grab my field notebook, and I could not for the life of me remember which plant was my first.
